Our editors are creating a thought-provoking new book, which will be available in the fall of 2009!  
Here’s your chance to put your 2¢ in!   

Working Title:  The Real Dollar Value of Good Old-Fashioned Manners

What we need from you:  

We want your input if you have ideas or stories that illustrate the value of manners or the cost of bad manners/lack of manners.

About the book:  There was a time when manners established the boundaries or safe space around people.  They allowed people to live and work and celebrate and relax together comfortably and with confidence because they handled the suffocating awkwardness and embarrassment that can keep us from interacting with others.  

Now we use solid walls, large spaces, distances, automobiles, gated communities and other physical barriers to keep us separate and “safe” from one another.  We get lonely.   Then we use TV’s, computers and video games to fill empty hours.  

Our modern society affords us so many more opportunities than ever before in human history.  But something is pressing us back and away from opportunity and personal freedom and fulfillment.  Is it something complex and mysterious or is it a problem that’s simple and easily solved?  

Have you ever wondered if a lack of “common manners” is contributing to our environmental and economic woes?  Keeping young people from being able to live cooperatively with one another so they can establish independent lives?  Preventing people from learning new things, like cooking and arts and crafts?  Making people tired and sick?  Stifling the word-of-mouth spread of good ideas and good news?    

How much does this cost us economically, socially, environmentally and creatively?  This is the question that this book explores.  

Your thoughts, stories and ideas about how things were in our customs and culture, how things are and how things can be better will make the book real and pertinent to every American.  

These are tough times for Americans, but nothing ever stays the same.  Life can get worse or it can get better.  What will happen is up to each person individually.  There are over three hundred and forty million Americans.  Can you imagine the power and impact of 340,000,000 small steps forward?  No giant step by the government or the media – no matter how right and helpful – could ever measure up to the impact we can create as individuals.  

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE

To contribute your stories or thoughts, email us at manners@moonsofpluto.com.  To send us your story by snail mail, write us at Moons of Pluto Publishing Company, PO Box 1101, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.  Let us know how to contact you.    

Stories, thoughts or comments should be no more than 750 words.    

Many of your contributions will appear in our book.  We will credit each contributor in the text.  All other contributors will be credited on the book’s web page.  So, let us know how you would like your name to appear.  For example:  John Smith, Phoenix, AZ or Jane Jones, Fayetteville, NC.  

This groundbreaking book will be published in the fall of 2009.  So don’t delay.  Email or write us today.  

We will gratefully thank and acknowledge each contributor, but we are not offering monetary compensation for contributions, just tons of prestige.  If we select your story to appear in the book, we’ll email or snail mail a release form to you.  Watch for it.  To contribute to another upcoming Moons of Pluto book, click on the “Holidays in the Military” link on this website.
